Food Pantry

North Liberty Food Pantry

Every Friday, from August 31st- November 16th, the staff was allowed to wear their favorite High School, College or NFL teams’ apparel as long as they donated 2 non-perishable food items. Pumping one another up for their favorite football games each week, led to a total collection of more than 1,800 non-perishable food items.  The food donations were then taken to our local food pantry in North Liberty, Iowa.  The staff at the pantry weighed in our donation and we donated 1,900 pounds of food!! With our donation, the pantry staff estimates that we will be able to help 70 families; based upon the statistic that the average family eats 27 pounds of food a week.

Reece's Team

March of Dimes

On Saturday, April 14, 2012 several Heartland Express employees from North Liberty participated in the March for Babies in Iowa City.  The walk is sponsored by the March of Dimes to help raise money and awareness to prevent premature births and other birth defects.  The employees walked with Reece’s Team.  Reece’s Team was created after Reece, daughter of Lea (IC-HR) and Kirk, was born 16 weeks premature.  Reece weighed 1lb, 10 oz and was 12 inches long.  She spent 140 days in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).  Reece is now 3 ½ years old and is doing great.  Because of the research and advancements by the March of Dimes,  she has no long term effects of her prematurity.  Heartland employees also came together to help raise money for the March of Dimes.  Together, Reece’s Team raised $13,340.40 in donations for the walk! This donation will help the March of Dimes in their mission to help make sure all babies are born healthy!
